Small businesses are urged to register the “.au” version of their domain name as soon as possible, in order to protect your businesses’ website from duplication, which could lead to confusion on the part of your client and potential “copycat” scams from cybercriminals.
So instead of www.[businessname].com.au, you could be www.[businessname].au which is shorter, neater, and more Aussie! (oi! oi! oi!)
Small businesses only have until 20 September 2022 to register. If you fail to do so, your domain name will be made available to the public, so anyone could create a domain name that’s very similar to your current one, and cause confusion for your customers/clients. For only a few dollars a year, you can protect your IP by adding a new domain, with an ending of .au, instead of .com.au
